Christmas 2018

We stayed in Portland for Christmas this year because we are headed to vacation a few days later.

- Christmas Eve -

Joe's best friend from college has a wife (who was Joe's friend and roommate before she got the boyfriend who ended up being Joe's bestie and her husband).  They came to town from Vermont to see her parents for the holiday and we got invited to the family Christmas Eve dinner on a houseboat!

Joe's other love

Joe spotted these on the sofa, they were stitched by a family member in '94!  They are Prairie Schooler Santa's

- Christmas Day -

We went to Christmas dinner at our friend's house in Scapoose, Oregon.  We were about 15 minutes from the houseboat but an hour from home.  We drove two hours each day for these gatherings with loved ones and it was worth it!

This is Lulu - quite possibly the most spoiled dog in the world.

Joe smoked a turkey and Shawna made all of the sides.

I made this cranberry Christmas smell concoction and I swear it smelled like throw-up.  I hated it!

- December 28 -

We headed to Fort Meyer's, FL to start our Christmas vacation.  First, time with Joe's fam (and I took no pictures).  Next, Bahamas!

Smalls Exchange Gift

After the Midwest Cross Stitchers retreat this fall, our table group missed each other.  We decided to do a smalls or ornament exchange and it was organize by my roomie and new bestie Sue Reno.

I stitched Crowning the Tree by Blackbird Designs for Marcy Thiessen blogged here

We had to ship our items by Dec 25th.  The day after Christmas I had a package on my doorstep.  It was from Teresa Kitten Stitcher.  KITTEN STITCHER OMG!
This is what was inside.  The Pattern is Prairie Schooler Songs of the Season and is stitch on 40 count linen.  This was an ornmanet exchange and I was going to post in our Facebook group that mine should be finished for the bread basket and not for my tree!  Well, Teresa knows me so well and had done that without my prompting.

Thank  you so much for this beautiful piece Teresa.  It will be cherished every Christmas!

Crowning the Tree by Blackbird Designs

After Midwest Cross Stitch retreat, the table group I was sitting with missed each other terribly.  Because of this, Sue Reno put together a private ornament exchange for us.  I got Marcy Thiessen who's middle name is somewhere between EXTRA! and accoutrements.  She's a classy lady and the pressure was on.

I chose Crowning the Tree by Blackbird Designs.  I headed to Acorn's and Threads and the pattern had moved!  We searched for a while and finally found it.  I pulled some of the thread colors from the wall and picked a coordinating linen.  I chose 32 count Lakeside Linens Vintage Pealed Barley.

I did a small for the Midwest Retreat, a Halloween stocking from BBD and although everyone else liked it, I thought it was missing something.  It needed beading and it needed stuffing.

 Here's the ornament, all completed.

I finished this up while I was in California for work.  I had to put this in the mail for an on-time Christmas delivery and I needed to head to the airport but I also needed to get a photo!  There was a huge tree in the entryway to the building I was in. Yes! Perfect.

Please take not that I am obviously at work!

I bought quite the collection of beads at JoAnn's because I wasn't sure what I would end up liking.

I used this photo that I found by searching beaded edging on Pinterest, original post for this picture is here.

I did not use the top bead although I did start that way.  It's a lot of up down up down, A LOT.  The beads took two evenings. I alternated brown gold brown gold.  I stuffed it with the tiniest bit of stuffing and backed it with a light brown Robert Kaufman essex yarn dyed linen quilting fabric from my stash

I pulled out my all the threads and had to put away CC Dublin Bay.  I browsed past CC English Ivy and thought, that's my tree color.  To limit color confusion I decided to stick with Classic Colorworks and chose:

Eggshell for the cream
Honeycomb for the gold
English Ivy for the trees/green
Cherry Cobbler for the red words
Barn Door for the red bird
Hickory Sticks for the brown, Caterpillar was a close second
Black Coffee for the black

Trim:

Shakey Graves

I didn't take that many pictures, but on Tuesday we went to see Shakey Graves with Gabby.  We went to dinner at LeChon and then headed to the theater.

PNW Meet-Up Dec 2018

This meet-up is a special one!  Lisa Kindred Stitcher and I both celebrated birthdays this week.  I brought cupcakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes but we didn't need it.  Holly and Anita sent us a cake by way of Audrey Stitchy Witch!

Beth Twist of Heartstring Samplery was also able to make it for about half the time.  I set my camera on the table and it turned out we had the exact same one! It was a great time.
